Daily Prayers for Lent from the Feline Cloister – 2024

by Sr. Maggie OSB-F

Sr. Maggie resides in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, with Amma’s brother Jim. She is on a Cloister mission to teach him about the Rule.

Cloister Contemplative, Sr. Maggie, OSB-F offers two simple prayers for the season of Lent.  Both track well with the suggestion for a Lenten practice from Resident Novice William – that we take steps to open to Christ living and working within us.

You are invited to pray these prayers during Lent along with the Feline Cloister and all in the Mewsletter community.  Directions for printing follow the prayers.

A Prayer from Psalm 51

Open my lips, O Lord,

and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,

and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from your presence

and take not your holy Spirit from me.

Give me the joy of your saving help again

and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

A Prayer by
Cardinal John Henry Newman

Dear Jesus,

Help me to spread your fragrance
everywhere I go.

Flood my soul with your spirit and life.

Penetrate and possess my whole being so
completely that my life may be only a radiance
of yours.

Shine through me

And be so in me

That every soul I come in contact with

may feel your presence in my soul.

Let them look up and see no longer me,

But only Jesus.  Amen.

John Henry Cardinal Newman
1801 – 1890
A founder of the Oxford Movement
prior to becoming Roman Catholic in 1845.
Newman’s is a favorite prayer of the Feline Cloister.

Directions for Downloading and Printing the Prayers

The two prayers are in separate WORD documents.   [Amma Jane couldn’t figure out how to get these on one document.]

The prayers can be printed separately or two-sided with the prayers on front and back.  The instructions for printing follow.  The links to each prayer follows the instructions.

  1. Click on the link for each prayer. This opens each in WORD.  Download each.
  2. Print each separately or print two-sided. Use card stock if you have this.  If you don’t want four copies of a prayer just delete what you don’t want to print.
  1. Cut on the lines just like you did in kindergarten. Good job!
