Miss Sassafras – My Promise for 2025

What prevents me from preferring nothing whatever to Christ?

I am a very devout kitty and do my best to live in the present moment where God is.  What gets in the way of preferring Christ is that I expect too much of myself and of my progress in the spiritual life.  Then I get really discouraged.

Practices from the Rule to help me craft my promise:

“Do not be daunted immediately by fear [or discouragement] and run away from the road that leads to salvation. It is bound to be narrow at the outset. But as we progress in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path of God’s commandments, our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love.”  Prologue 48-49

“Place your hope in God alone.”  RB 4.41

My 2025 Promise:

I will recognize that the spiritual path may sometimes seem narrow and difficult to follow.  But I will place my hope in God and accept where I am in that path.  The vow of stability asks me to persevere, and I will do my best.

What my human needs to learn to help her prefer nothing whatever to Christ:

I explained that Mommy Kimberly needs be more faithful in setting aside Sabbath time.  I know she would feel refreshed to just let me sit on her lap in the big chair.  We can gaze outside at the patio garden together.

Practices from the Rule to help my human craft her promise:

“Idleness [overwork here] is the enemy of the soul. Therefore, the community members should have specified periods for manual labor as well as for prayerful reading…But after Sext and their meal, they may rest on their beds in complete silence.”  RB 48.1, 2, 5a

“…all things are to be done with moderation on account of the fainthearted.”  RB 48.9

“Among themselves they show the pure love of sisters and brothers.  RB 72.8

“Your way of acting should be different from the world’s way; the love of Christ must come before all else.”  RB 4.20-21

My Human’s 2025 Promise:

Miss Sassafras asks you to join her and craft your own 2025 Promise.
