Chloe Sophia – My Promise for 2025
What prevents me from preferring nothing whatever to Christ?
What gets in the way is my desire to be worshipped. When I don’t feel that the humans are worshipping me enough, I get really annoyed. Then it’s pretty clear that I prefer myself to Christ.
Practices from the Rule to help me craft my promise:
“Sisters and Brothers, divine Scripture calls to us saying: Whoever exalt themselves shall be humbled, and whoever humble themselves shall be exalted (Luke 14:11; 18:14). In saying this, therefore, it shows us that every exaltation is a kind of pride.” RB 7.1-2a
“The first step of humility, then, is that we keep the reverence of God always before our eyes (Ps 36:2) and never forget it.” RB 7.10
“The second step of humility is that we love not our own will nor take pleasure in the satisfaction of our desires; rather we shall imitate by our actions that saying of Christ’s: I have come not to do my own will, but the will of the One who sent me”(John 6:38).” RB 7.31-32
My 2025 Promise:
I will do a special study of the Ladder of Humility in Chapter 7 – Humility. I will try hard to replace pride with humility, i.e., a realistic view of who I am. Benedict says that “the ladder erected is our life on earth, and if we humble our hearts God will raise it to heaven.” RB 7.8 God will help me raise my heart to preferring nothing whatever to Christ.
What my human needs to learn to help her prefer nothing whatever to Christ:
Being still and listen to the soft voice of God.
Practices from the Rule to help my human craft her promise:
“Listen readily to holy reading, and devote yourself often to prayer.” RB 4.55-56
“We believe that the divine presence is everywhere.” RB 19.1a
“Listen carefully, my child, to my instructions, and attend to them with the ear of your heart. This is advice from one who loves you; welcome it, and faithfully put it into practice.” Prologue 1
My Human’s 2025 Promise:
Chloe Sophia asks you to join her and craft your own 2025 Promise.
